Holiday Makeup Dos & Don’ts

December 14, 2011  |  Tips & Technique

The holidays are the ideal time to add some drama to your look.  Smokey eyes or dramatic lips are the perfect accessory to any holiday ensemble.  Experimenting with a new look can seem a little tricky, but with my list of holiday dos and don’ts you’ll be looking seasonally chic in no time!

Don’t over accessorize – remember a holiday red lip should be considered an accessory.

Do emphasize your eyes or lips – Don’t emphasize both.  The key to looking holiday chic is to choose one feature to play up one feature and tone down others.  Think smokey eye and subtle lip or dramatic lips and a shimmery nude shadow.

Do wear blush! Cold weather takes the color out of your skin and blush can keep you from looking washed out.

Don’t get stuck in a red lip rut – Jewel tones like deep berries and plums make a great holiday lip.

Do try a smokey eye with blue or plums – It’s a colorful season and these colors will make your eyes POP!

Don’t forget to moisturize. The dry indoor heat is harsh on your skin.  Moisturize your face, body and hands every day.  Toss a hydrating spray in your bag for added moisture throughout the day.

Do add a touch of shimmer.  Even the oiliest of skins can benefit from shimmer.  It is the quickest and easiest way to add a hydrated holiday look.  Try it on your cheek bones, brow bone and collar bone.
