Pre-Holiday Beauty Prep Tips from Cory Bishop
The holidays are coming. That means lots of parties and events, where the last thing you want to be worrying about is not looking your best. The secret to looking flawless from head to toe for your holiday party is preparation. By taking care of your skin, hair, and nails now you’ll not only prevent beauty blunders (think acne, stained teeth, blotchy spray tans and more), you’ll also be able to simplify your beauty routine later.
Make Your Pearly Whites Pop
There are a lot of OTC teeth whitening programs on the shelves right now. The biggest trend is the 2 hour express whitening kits. If you are in a hurry these do work… but you might have to endure the “beauty is pain” mantra. Save yourself the numbing pain and think ahead. I recommend the 7 to 14 day whitening strips. They have the same active ingredients but you can take you can take it in steps. If your teeth start to feel sensitive you can skip a day, without wasting money.
Once you complete the regimen the whiten effect can last for 6 months so you will look your best well into next year. So whiten your teeth now and save yourself the pain.
Creating an Eruption-Free Zone
Cold weather means heat inside. Indoor heat can make your skin react unpredictably. Add the holiday stress on top of that and who knows just what might erupt. By getting an emergency first aid skin kit ready, you’ll be prepared for any skin crisis.
Things to include in your kit:
1. Baking soda – Mix it with your facial cleanser to get rid of any flaky rough skin. Very gentle.
2. Salicylic acid – You can find this gel at most drug stores. Works as a spot treatment to reduce redness and inflammation.
3. Eye cream with Arnica – We all know by now that eye cream is important… but after a long holiday party we might need a little more help the next morning. Arnica reduces water retention and can get rid of the puffiness if you have a little too much fun the night before.
4. Petroleum Jelly – This is a multitasking power house! Hydrates skin, lips, elbows, knees, feet, cuticles – anything!
Keep your exfoliation up! During the winter you may want to bump up your exfoliation to keep your skin smooth. It will also help your makeup look better and last longer. Just make sure you don’t overdo it. Twice a week is perfect!
